City of Waterloo informed that the unscheduled third-party livestream had minimal views

The City of Waterloo has received an update from LiveBarn Inc. (LiveBarn), a sports streaming service, on the unscheduled livestreaming covering the hockey arena at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (WMRC). City staff were first notified of the unscheduled livestream on July 23, 2025.

LiveBarn has indicated that WMRC is the only City of Waterloo arena where unscheduled livestreaming took place and that none of the streaming between July 1 and July 23 was downloaded or shared.

Although the City of Waterloo is awaiting further confirmation, there is a high likelihood that the livestream of the hockey arena was active and available to LiveBarn subscribers from May 1, 2025, to July 23, 2025.

In reviewing the unscheduled livestream duration, there may be additional rental groups using the arena at WMRC who were impacted. All relevant facility booking holders and campers’ guardians have been notified.

The City of Waterloo continues to work with LiveBarn, Waterloo Minor Hockey Association and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario on this matter to review procedures and determine any changes required. LiveBarn cameras at all City of Waterloo arenas remain offline.
