City of Waterloo invites residents to bring colour and creativity to neighbourhoods through the neighbourhood Chalk Challenge

The City of Waterloo is inviting residents to take part in the neighbourhood Chalk Challenge, starting in May, to spark creativity and foster vibrant, strong and connected neighbourhoods.

The Chalk Challenge encourages neighbours of all ages to head outdoors and transform sidewalks, driveways and public spaces into colourful works of art. The initiative supports the City’s broader goal of supporting strong neighbourhoods by creating opportunities for connection and shared experiences.

“Vibrant neighbourhoods are built through small, shared moments,” said Julie Legg, Supervisor, Neighbourhood Services. “The Chalk Challenge is a great way for families, friends and neighbours of all ages to get outdoors and strengthen community connections.”

Residents who register before April 27, 2026, will receive free chalk, and everyone is encouraged to share their creations in a virtual public art gallery. Learn more about getting involved at: www.waterloo.ca/chalk-challenge

The Chalk Challenge is one of many neighbourhood-focused programs that support residents in bringing ideas to life, from hosting events to leading neighbourhood projects. These initiatives help strengthen community connections and encourage residents to play an active role in shaping their neighbourhoods.
