City of Waterloo mourns loss from devastating house fire
The City of Waterloo offers its deepest condolences to the family and friends of a Waterloo resident who tragically died earlier today following a fire on Graham Street.
On June 5, 2023, at approximately 12 a.m., Waterloo Fire Rescue firefighters responded to a house fire in the area of Graham Street and Waterloo Street. A total of four buildings were impacted, with two sustaining significant damage. Three occupants were transported to the hospital, with one later passing away.
“On behalf of Council, we join the family and friends of the deceased in mourning the loss of life as a result of this devastating fire. We offer our sincere condolences,” says Mayor Dorothy McCabe. “We also extend our gratitude to the emergency services staff who responded swiftly to the scene.”
Waterloo Regional Police Service, Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services and Enova Power Corporation also responded to assist with this fire. The origin, cause and circumstances of the fire are under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal who remains on-scene at this time with support from the City of Waterloo Fire Rescue staff.
“Waterloo Fire Rescue offers our condolences to the lives touched by this tragic fire,” says Fire Chief, Richard Hepditch. “The loss of life in a fire is a significant reminder of the importance of fire safety and prevention measures.”
