City of Waterloo moving forward with essential public works construction projects

The City of Waterloo is moving forward on several necessary construction projects that will deliver valuable benefit to the community.

The Province of Ontario supports the construction of roads, watermains, sewers and other municipal services that are deemed essential to ensure that these services continue to work properly and continue to meet our community’s needs. The city is acting consistently with other local area municipalities and other major municipalities in the province. We continue to evaluate and re-assess the situation as required.

Key transportation and or infrastructure construction projects that the city will be proceeding with between now to the end of May include:

  • Annual road resurfacing and concrete repair contract
  • Condition assessment and sewer main spot repairs
  • West Side Employment Lands – area grading and Platinum Drive extension and servicing
  • Atlantic Boulevard Trail (erosion stabilization)
  • Moses Springer Trail (erosion stabilization)
  • Royal Street reconstruction
  • Longwood Drive/Moccasin Drive reconstruction
  • Maple Creek rehabilitation
  • Roosevelt Avenue reconstruction

Construction will occur in accordance with all applicable laws including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (and its regulations), and in compliance with advice, recommendations and instructions of public health officials, including as it relates to physical distancing, cleaning and disinfecting. Furthermore, under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, employers must take precautions to keep workers safe, including keeping them informed, creating health and safety policies and procedures and ensuring workers use the right protective equipment.
