City of Waterloo now accepting applications for the 2019 Artist in Residence

The City of Waterloo invites artists from across Waterloo Region to apply for the opportunity to be the 2019 Artist in Residence.

The City of Waterloo Artist in Residence program encourages artistic activity in a variety of community spaces such as municipal buildings, parks, and other community venues. This year, the program will take place in the Northdale neighbourhood, an area bounded by University Avenue West, Phillip Street, Columbia Street West, and King Street North. As a neighbourhood, Northdale has seen a significant change in terms of both demographics and built form over the past twenty years. The 2019 Artist in Residence program will work with community residents and stakeholders to engage the community in a conversation about the changing landscape.

“Northdale is one of the many interesting neighbourhoods that make Waterloo unique,” says Janice Mitchell, interim manager of growth management for the City of Waterloo. “This year’s program offers artists the opportunity to explore the idea of transformation. We look forward to seeing how this theme inspires applicants to re-ignite a sense of community in the area.”

The successful applicant will create and deliver a hands-on program of activities that will enhance connectivity and interaction between residents, educational institutions, and the community at large. The residency will take place between June and October and will close with a community showcase in Veterans’ Green.

Emerging and established artists living in Waterloo Region who work in various mediums are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is Monday, May 6 at 9 a.m. For information, or to submit an online application, please visit our website
