City of Waterloo to host Sports Field Training Day at RIM Park
The City of Waterloo will welcome sports field professionals from across Canada to RIM Park on Thursday, Oct. 1, for the 2026 Sports Field Training Day, hosted by the Canadian Sports Fields Association, formerly Sports Turf Canada.
The full-day event will bring together municipal parks professionals, sports field managers and industry experts for hands-on learning, demonstrations and opportunities to share best practices in sports field management and maintenance. Participants will learn about topics ranging from synthetic turf maintenance to irrigation technology, while seeing the latest equipment and maintenance tools in action.
On the agenda is a presentation highlighting Waterloo’s sports field story, including its unique challenges, successes and future direction, along with site visits to Waterloo’s fields and ball diamonds to highlight the Waterloo turf and parks professionals who maintain them.
A group of City staff will also participate in the event, joining colleagues and industry professionals for a day of learning and knowledge sharing. Waterloo’s turf professionals play an important role in providing safe, high-quality and resilient playing surfaces that support everything from neighbourhood recreation and minor sports to major sporting tournaments. That expertise was on full display this year as the City of Waterloo co-hosted the 2026 Ontario Summer Games.
“The City of Waterloo is honoured to host the 2026 Sports Turf Canada Field Day, a day that brings industry experts and municipal professionals together to share, learn and participate in demonstrations,” said Robin Milne, Director, Parks, Forestry and Cemetery Services at the City of Waterloo. “This is the first time the event is being hosted in Waterloo, providing a great opportunity to showcase our sports infrastructure and the expertise and dedication of the staff who work behind the scenes to maintain it.”
