City of Waterloo welcomes Building the Future of Care, Together hospital announcement

The David Johnston Research + Technology Park at the University of Waterloo is the site selected for the new, state-of-the-art hospital in Waterloo. The City of Waterloo congratulates Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital on this historic milestone for local healthcare, and pledges support for the Building the Future of Care Together redevelopment project.

“We are thrilled that the new, state-of-the-art hospital will be built in Waterloo, where there is a long history of community and post-secondary partnerships,” said Mayor Dorothy McCabe. “This site will provide residents from our region and across the province with high-quality patient care, and provide the hospital with access to the world-class talent and medical technology innovation opportunities our City has to offer.”

The City of Waterloo has a long history of working with the University of Waterloo on key projects and supporting development. The City will continue to support the new Hospital organization and the University of Waterloo in the planning process to determine how the land will be developed to house the future hospital.

Partnering for social innovation is one of the objectives under the City of Waterloo’s Innovation and Future-Ready strategic priority. Under this priority, the City has been working to identify opportunities and advocate for new and accessible health care services, including a new hospital for Waterloo Region. The City continues its long history of collaborating with key partners, such as the new Hospital organization and post-secondary institutions, to grow our innovation ecosystem.
