City summer events for 2021
In recognition of the ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic, the City of Waterloo will be moving many of its summer community events online this year or exploring new program formats.
While there are no events planned for Victoria Day, Canada Day will feature temporary public art installations in each city ward, and will encourage small family picnics in parks throughout the city. An online component will also be available for community members to enjoy from home.
All of this year’s planned events will have a different format than in a traditional year. The city is planning a series of small-scale Campfire events that will require pre-registration and will take place in different locations throughout the city, month-long events that will be presented in a self-directed format, and the return of drive-in movies.
“Our programs have been designed to be flexible, so that we can adapt to changing public gathering restrictions. These type of events are important for people’s physical and mental well-being and we hope everyone participates,” said Astero Kalogeropoulos, Manager, Arts and Culture, City of Waterloo.
Greater details will be shared as the timing for each event draws closer.
