Government of Canada funds two community revitalization projects
A new uptown public washroom and much-needed window replacements at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery are two city revitalization projects receiving support from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
“Revitalizing community spaces, like the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo, will help bring people together to enjoy local attractions while creating local economic growth,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “Our government is happy to support projects like these that enhance local infrastructure and promote a better quality of life for Canadians.”
“The Government of Canada’s funding for bricks and mortar projects like these provide important foundations that support active and vibrant communities,” said the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Member of Parliament for Waterloo. “The City of Waterloo is now better positioned to welcome residents and visitors to enjoy all that it has to offer.”
“Thank you to the federal government for supporting Waterloo’s vision of an inclusive and active city by funding both of these revitalization projects,” said Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe. “The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is one of the special cultural gems in our community and this enhancement will make visiting the venue more comfortable and help with the building’s energy efficiency. The new public washrooms are a welcome addition and a required amenity in our uptown.”
Each project is receiving a non-repayable contribution of $262,500 towards total costs, with the City providing the remainder for each initiative.
Construction for both projects is underway and should be completed by the fall of 2023.
