Holocaust Remembrance Day 2026
On January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated. This date is now commemorated as Holocaust Remembrance Day, remembering one of the darkest times in human history when over six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis.
We also remember the millions of other victims, including Romani peoples, political opponents, folks in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities.
While honouring the victims, we also reflect on the dangers of anti-Semitism and how oppressive systems can foster discrimination and genocide, leaving lasting effects on communities for generations.
As a City, we re-commit ourselves to upholding human rights and challenging anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry in all its forms.
