Indigenous History Month
Indigenous History Month is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the unique heritage, history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. We encourage everyone to deepen their learning of Indigenous art, cultural practices, and ways of thinking and knowing while recognizing this learning is only possible because of the strength and resilience of Indigenous People.
As a City, we are committed to advancing Reconciliation by following through on the recommendations in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Report and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
Later this month, we will also recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 with a new mural in Waterloo Public Square.
