International Holocaust Remembrance Day
City statement: International Holocaust Remembrance Day
January 27 is the International Day of Commemoration in memory of victims of the Holocaust, which marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945. By the end of the Holocaust, or 'Shoah' in Hebrew, six million Jewish people had been murdered by the Nazis.
People around the world and in our community will pause to listen to survivors, honour the memory of the victims and reflect on the dangers of anti-Semitism.
As a City, we re-commit ourselves to standing up for human rights and to challenge anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry in all its forms.
