Louis Riel Day

Today we remember Louis Riel, a courageous Métis leader and founder of the Province of Manitoba.

As an activist and politician, Riel’s legacy has made a lasting impact on the Métis Nation and on Canada. His vision for inclusion laid the foundation for Manitoba to enter the confederation. His commitment to Métis rights, which ultimately resulted in his execution on November 16, 1885, remains a source of strength for Métis people.

Let’s honour the memory of Louis Riel by celebrating the heritage and contributions of Métis people in our community and across the country, while working to make his vision of inclusion and social justice a reality.
