Mid-Autumn Festival

Tonight, Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations will take place in many Asian communities in Waterloo and around the world.

Also known as the Moon Festival, families, friends and neighbours will gather to admire the moon at its fullest and brightest. The full moon's round shape symbolizes completeness and unity, which is why families often gather to celebrate the festival together. This special occasion varies by cultural community but frequently involves gratitude for the harvest, exchanging greetings or gifts and enjoying traditional foods like mooncakes.

For those in Waterloo who may be celebrating away from your families, we warmly welcome you to find community here. Whether connecting with new friends or joining local events, there are many ways to experience the spirit of togetherness that this festival embodies.

The festival is a good reminder for us all to celebrate the importance of our loved ones, togetherness and the beauty of the moon.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
