National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia (1)

City statement: National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia

Today we remember Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzedine Soufiane, and Aboubaker Thabti who were killed while praying in the Quebec City Mosque Attack in 2017.

This National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia draws attention to the growing demonstrations of hate faced by Muslims in Canada. Hate crimes aim to create fear and harm to victims, yet families and friends who lost a loved one, survivors, those who were injured, and those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others prevail. Locally and across Canada, we pause, reflect and take action. There is critical work that must be done to eliminate Islamophobia, hate, racism and all forms of discrimination and prejudice.
