Nomination period closes for the 2026 municipal election

The paperwork is filed, and candidates are registered as Waterloo Region voters prepare to head to the polls this fall. Candidate nominations for the 2026 municipal election closed at 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026.

This year’s nomination period opened on May 1. The clerks from each local municipality have reviewed and certified all nominations.

On October 26, voters will elect Councillors for regional, city and township councils, as well as Mayors for area municipalities and School Board Trustees.
