Nunavut 2026

Today, we celebrate the creation of Nunavut, Canada's youngest territory, and the people, cultures and traditions that have shaped the region for thousands of years.  

Although Nunavut officially became a territory on April 1, 1999, July 9 marks the anniversary of the passage of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act and the Nunavut Act in 1993.

Nunavut Day is a chance to recognize the strength, resilience and leadership of Inuit communities, and to learn more about the territory's rich cultural heritage, languages and deep connection to the land.
