Overnight parking ban beginning at 11:59 p.m., Nov. 15, 2018
Update for Friday, Nov. 16, 2018: The parking ban will continue until this evening (Friday) at midnight as indicated below.
(Waterloo, Ont. – Nov. 15, 2018) The City of Waterloo has declared a snow event and an overnight parking ban is in effect beginning at 11:59 p.m., Nov. 15, 2018.
Residents must remove cars from streets by midnight tonight or risk being ticketed and towed. The parking ban will remain in effect for 24 hours until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018. Information will be posted in advance of midnight, Friday as to whether the city will cancel the snow event and parking ban or extend it for another 24 hours, weather dependent. Removing cars from streets will facilitate safe and quick snow removal. Overnight parking exemptions will not be permitted.
Under the city’s traffic and parking bylaw, parking is prohibited on all streets at any time a snow event is declared until it is cancelled. Snow events are declared when the city anticipates a significant amount of snow to accumulate. A typical snow event declaration will be announced earlier in the day of the event and effective from 11:59 p.m. of that day for a full 24 hours or until the snow event has been cancelled.
More information on snow removal efforts can be found at waterloo.ca/snow. Residents are encouraged to check the city’s snow event news feed (and subscribe to this news feed) or Twitter account @citywaterloo and/or Facebook to determine when a parking ban has been declared or cancelled.
Helpful winter/snow tips
- Please be patient and give the snow plows room as you drive near them.
- As per the city’s by-law, please do not shovel the snow from your driveway onto the road. This can create unsafe driving conditions.
- Please clear snow from around hydrants on your property to assist with a faster response time in case of an emergency.
- Ensure that intake and exhaust vents for your furnace are clear of snow to reduce carbon monoxide build-up.
