Statement from Mayor Dave Jaworsky, City of Waterloo on Ezra Avenue, St. Patrick’s Day
“I am very pleased and proud that students did the right thing. As I said, our students are smart people. They have clearly taken the threat of the dangerous potential spread of COVID-19 seriously. I’m glad students took a large community view and didn’t participate in this illegal gathering. I also think our safety message, along with those delivered by our partners, had a positive impact. I’m cautiously optimistic this signals a change in the trajectory of this event, and hope that’s the case next year. It’s too early to draw many conclusions, we’ll look at the data in the coming weeks, however this was a great outcome. My thanks to all the first responders and the post-secondary institutions for their efforts.” – Mayor Dave Jaworsky
