Summer Company program offers support for students to launch their business ideas

Turn your business idea into reality this summer!

Students aged 15 to 29 are encouraged to apply to the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre's Summer Company program, an exciting opportunity to start and run a real business over the summer with funding, mentorship and hands‑on experience. Applications are open now and close May 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Summer Company helps young entrepreneurs become their own boss while building practical skills for the future. Participants receive start‑up funding, guidance from local business leaders, and real‑world experience in marketing, sales, finances and customer service.

Participants must be able to commit an average of 35 hours per week for a minimum of 8 weeks in a row for high school students (280 hours) or 12 weeks in a row for post-secondary students (total 420 hours). A mandatory orientation day will take place on June 6, with programs beginning June 10 for post‑secondary students and July 8 for high school students. The program runs through the summer and wraps up with a graduation celebration on August 26.

Students are encouraged to review the required application materials and reach out to the Small Business Centre for help preparing their application.
