The Amazing Race Canada comes to Waterloo

CTV’s popular summertime series, The Amazing Race Canada, comes to Waterloo in the August 13, 2019 episode. Averaging two million viewers per episode, The Amazing Race Canada is one of the nation’s highest rated TV shows and the perfect opportunity for Canadians to get up close with destinations across the country.

The up-coming episode will feature locations throughout Waterloo including the University of Waterloo campus and Waterloo Park. The production crew spent several days in Waterloo and filmed throughout the region. The connection to Waterloo was forged in part by Minto Schneider, chief executive officer of the Waterloo Regional Tourism Marketing Corporation.

“Waterloo Region is primed for production crews who are looking to film in interesting areas outside of Toronto. We were excited about the opportunity to work with the Amazing Race Canada team to showcase what Waterloo has to offer and to market Waterloo as a great destination to explore,” says Schneider.

In addition to showcasing the local attractions, the selection of Waterloo as a location supports the increased interest in Waterloo as a film and production hub.

“Film and media production is a fast growing area of interest for us here in Waterloo” says Justin McFadden, director of economic development for the City of Waterloo. “With over 50 local residents hired for this production alone, Waterloo will benefit not only from the nation-wide exposure, but also from the investment in our local economy, workforce, and tourism industry.”

As a thank you to the community and those who worked on the production, City of Waterloo will be hosting a free screening of the episode at The Princess Twin Cinema on Aug. 13, 2019 at 9 p.m. Doors will open at 8:30 p.m.
