Virtual Ride-a-Bus event in Waterloo
The Waterloo Age Friendly Committee has partnered with Grand River Transit (GRT) to offer virtual Ride-a-Bus training and orientation to older adults in the community. While everyone should continue to observe the stay-at-home order issued by the province, these virtual Zoom sessions on how to use the bus and ION system provide practical information for the future.
The virtual program will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, January 27 and again on Tuesday, February 2. The 45-minute presentation is designed for older adults wishing to become comfortable with bus and ION service in Waterloo Region, and explains how to use buses, ION trains, the EasyGo fare card system, as well as addressing safety measures and mobility access for wheelchairs or scooters. The program includes an eight-minute video on the bus and ION system, and then a question and answer session with two GRT community relations staff members.
In 2019, six in-person Ride-a-Bus events were held in Waterloo Region, and proved very popular with older adults.
Participants can enroll in one of the Ride-a-Bus Zoom sessions by registering through Eventbrite:
- Wednesday, January 27th at 1:30 p.m. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/135703212963
- Tuesday, February 2nd at 10:30 a.m. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/135725850673
For those who want to experience the program but do not have computer access, a telephone version of the Ride-a-Bus program will be available in February.
The Waterloo Age Friendly Committee acknowledges the cooperation and leadership provided by the staff at Grand River Transit to make this program possible this year.
