Waterloo Council selects 2025 Council for a Day winners
The City of Waterloo’s annual Council for a Day contest is an opportunity for Grade 5 students to share their ideas to make Waterloo an even better place to live.
The eight winners are invited to share their ideas at Waterloo’s State of the City on May 1, 2025, and spend the day with Mayor McCabe and City Council.
The contest highlights ideas, priorities and concerns of youth in our community. This year, many of the ideas focused on themes of sustainability and community connection.
The City of Waterloo thanks everyone who participated in the 2025 Council for a Day contest and is pleased to announce this year's winners.
Note: Winners were assigned wards for this contest, which may not reflect where they live or attend school.

"I’m inspired by the fresh ideas youth in Waterloo are bringing forward,” said Waterloo Mayor McCabe. “They’re not only thinking critically about the environment, but imagining a future where our city is even more connected, inclusive and community-focused. Their ideas give me hope for what’s ahead.”
The 2025 State of the City will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 7 to 9 a.m. The event is hosted by Rotary Waterloo and proceeds are in support of Food4Kids Waterloo Region. Tickets are available at rotarywaterloo.ca
