Waterloo courts and skatepark to open, public washroom map now available
Following the provincial announcement of the Roadmap to Reopen yesterday, the City of Waterloo will be ready to open tennis courts, basketball courts and the Waterloo Park skatepark effective Saturday, May 22, 2021. Park shelters and other facility rentals are not yet available.
While celebrating the Victoria Day weekend, we ask residents to take things slowly and cautiously, and to continue to follow public health recommendations to limit contact to your own household as much as possible. The new outdoor limits for social gatherings and public events are expanded to five people to allow the reopened amenities to be used by groups of up to five people, including those from different households. Practice 2 metres physical distancing and wear masks if distancing is not possible. If parks or courts are crowded, consider visiting at another time. Backyard firework displays are still discouraged to maintain personal and community safety.
Public washrooms are available for use throughout the city, and city staff have produced a custom Google map of public washrooms in Waterloo, including accessible washroom facilities. The map can be found on the City of Waterloo’s website.
Recreation staff are reviewing the new provincial rules to clarify and interpret what will be permitted in the different reopening steps. Team play and training are not yet allowed. Facilities and fields, including soccer fields, cricket pitches, baseball diamonds, volleyball courts and picnic shelters are not available for bookings.
