Waterloo declares snow event as of 11:59 p.m. on January 28, 2019

The City of Waterloo has declared a snow event for Jan. 28, 2019 which will be effective at 11:59 p.m. tonight (Jan. 28) and will remain in effect throughout tomorrow, Jan. 29. Information will be posted when the parking ban has been cancelled.

Residents must remove cars from streets by midnight tonight or risk being ticketed and towed. Removing cars from streets will facilitate safe and quick snow removal. Overnight parking exemptions will not be permitted.

Under the city's traffic and parking bylaw, parking is prohibited on all streets at any time a snow event is declared until it is cancelled. Snow events are declared when the city anticipates a significant amount of snow to accumulate.

For more information about snow clearing operations, visit waterloo.ca/snow. Residents are encouraged to check the city's snow event news feed (and subscribe to this news feed) or  follow the Twitter account @citywaterloo and/or Facebook to determine when a parking ban has been declared or cancelled.

Helpful winter/snow tips:

  • Please be patient and give the snow plows room as you drive near them.
  • As per the city's by-law, please do not shovel the snow from your driveway onto the road. This can create unsafe driving conditions.
  • Please clear snow from around hydrants on your property to assist with a faster response time in case of an emergency.
  • Ensure the intake and exhaust vents for your furnace are clear of snow to reduce carbon monoxide build-up.
