Waterloo gradually reinstates parking fees and enforcement

Effective July 1, 2020, City of Waterloo gradually reinstated permit parking fees and parking enforcement.

In April 2020, City of Waterloo Council approved a financial relief package to support local businesses and residents dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This package included among other things, waiving the monthly parking permit fees for municipal parking lots for the months of April, May and June 2020.

As the province moves through stage 2 of the pandemic recovery phase and more local businesses open up, the city will slowly transition back to normal permit parking fees and enforcement operations.

Effective July 1, 2020, parking permit holders are now required to pay for their permits using the following phased-in schedule:

  • July: 25 per cent of market rate
  • August: 50 per cent of market rate
  • September: 75 per cent of market rate
  • October: 100 per cent of market rate

Also effective July 1, payment of hourly fees is required.

In order to ensure consistent and fair use of municipal parking lots and the streets adjacent to the lots, parking enforcement will recommence as of July 7, 2020, also using a phased-in approach. For the first two weeks of July, parking enforcement officers will issue warning tickets only, and will begin issuing full parking tickets later in the month.

Overnight on-street parking enforcement will recommence later this summer.
