Waterloo hosts first-ever neighbourhood summit
On Saturday, Nov. 2 the City of Waterloo will host its first-ever neighbourhood summit at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) from 1 – 8 p.m.
The neighbourhood summit is an initiative of the neighbourhood strategy, bringing together neighbours from across the city to hear aspirational stories, share information and network.
Earlier this year, a neighbourhoods leaders team was formed and collaborating with city staff, developed the summit as a full day of activities and practical discussions, including breakout sessions aimed at sharing resident-led initiatives and information about available municipal supports. Highlights include a panel of neighbourhood association board members sharing their experiences, a discussion led by staff from Immigration Partnership on the importance of building inclusive neighbourhoods, and information about the process of delivering an event like the popular Grand Porch Party and Schneider Creek Porch Party.
There will be formal and informal opportunities to network, an information showcase with city services and community partners such as KW Library of Things, Volunteer Action Centre and dotmocracy, to gather resident feedback relating to future neighbourhood strategy projects. The event will finish with a presentation from the City of Hamilton’s neighbourhood action strategy highlighting the accomplishments of residents and the impacts of resident engagement on city projects.
Over 100 people have registered to attend this free event; registrations are welcome online until Friday, November 1. Dinner, public transit reimbursement and childcare are provided.
