Waterloo’s first fire hydrant drinking water fountain

The City of Waterloo has unveiled the city’s first hydrant drinking water fountain in Waterloo Public Square.

The fountain offers the same clean and safe drinking water that is available in taps across the city and can be accessed in four ways: through the bottle filling station, the drinking station, the accessible drinking station and the pet station.

The seasonal water fountain will be available throughout the summer as a convenient way to access safe drinking water, without the need to purchase single-use water bottles. The water fountain will serve as a pilot as the city determines the community usage and viability before potentially expanding the program to other locations. Waterloo Fire Rescue has also been consulted on the project to ensure that the fountain does not interfere with the normal use of the fire hydrant.
