Community gardens are volunteer-run places where neighbours grow vegetables, flowers and more. Find them in local parks and public spaces.

How garden teams work

Each garden is run by a team of 3 to 5 neighbourhood volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer, connect directly with your local garden.

Garden teams are responsible for:

  • caring for their individual plot
  • maintaining common areas and nearby park space
  • organizing forms each season
  • digging, planting and weeding
  • assigning plots fairly
  • staying in regular contact with team members

The time commitment is flexible. The community garden season runs from May to October.

For more details, review our Operating a community garden guide (PDF).
