Ride e-scooters safely

Learn where and how to ride e-scooters safely. 

The speed limit for e-scooters is 24 km/h on roads, bike lanes and paved trails.

Where you can ride e-scooters

You can ride e-scooters:

  • on any road with a speed limit of 50 km/h or less
  • in bike lanes, even on roads with higher speed limits
  • on paved multi-use trails next to streets, such as 

Always check the road speed limit before you ride.


Follow e-scooter rules

To ride an e-scooter, you must:

  • be 16 years of age or older
  • wear a helmet

When riding:

  • only one rider is allowed – no passengers
  • stay off sidewalks – walk your scooter if you need to cross or park
  • ride on the right side of the road, close to the edge
  • slow down on shared trails
  • yield to pedestrians
  • park clear of sidewalks, driveways and roads
