Collision locations

Tracking where collisions are most likely to happen helps us learn where new safety measures, such as speed limit changes, crosswalks, or protected bike lanes are needed most.

Speed data

As part of the ‘annual network screening analysis’ city staff reviewed recent speed and traffic data to find the streets in Waterloo where drivers are going faster than the posted 30 and 40 km/h limits. These streets will be the top priority for traffic calming measures, such as speed humps, flexible posts to guide traffic, and signs that show drivers how fast they’re going.

Traffic collision trends

The number of traffic collisions each year can go up or down for many reasons, like weather or road work. Because of this, it’s better to look at traffic trends over many years instead of one year at a time.

Pedestrian and cyclist collision data

People walking, rolling or biking are more at risk in a traffic collision than drivers because they aren’t as protected. Tracking collisions involving people who walk, roll or bike helps the city find ways to make active transportation safer and easier, and supports a healthy community.
