Get a tax certificate | City of Waterloo

A tax certificate shows yearly property tax amounts, payment history, penalties and any outstanding balances.

Lawyers or real estate agents often request them during a sale or purchase.

Fee

Each certificate costs $89.

We only release tax account information to:

property owners – with proof of identity
someone with power of attorney papers or a signed letter of authorization form (PDF)
listing real estate agents with a signed letter of authorization form (PDF)

The fastest way is through the mypermits portal:

If you can’t apply online, download and complete the tax certificate request form (PDF)

Submit the form with payment:

in person at Revenue Services, City Hall (cash, debit, or cheque payable to the City of Waterloo)
by mail with cheque payable to the City of Waterloo:

Verbal confirmation is available for 3 months after issue.
