Get a tax certificate

A tax certificate shows yearly property tax amounts, payment history, penalties and any outstanding balances.

Lawyers or real estate agents often request them during a sale or purchase.

Each certificate costs $89.


Who can request a tax certificate

We only release tax account information to:


Request certificate

The fastest way is through the mypermits portal:

  • enter the property’s roll number
  • pay online by credit card

We’ll email your certificate after payment.

If you can’t apply online, download and complete the tax certificate request form (PDF)

Submit the form with payment:

  • in person at Revenue Services, City Hall (cash, debit, or cheque payable to the City of Waterloo)
  • by mail with cheque payable to the City of Waterloo:

Certificate details

Verbal confirmation is available for 3 months after issue.

After 3 months, you’ll need a new certificate.
