Apply for a high water bill credit

You may be able to get help if your water bill is much higher than usual because of a plumbing leak inside your home.

How the credit works

If approved:

  • you can apply once every 10 years per property
  • the credit is capped at $2,000
  • the city covers 50% of the water use above your 12-month average
  • the credit applies to the water bill only

Check if you qualify

You may be able to apply if:

  • you live in a low-density residential home
  • you had a water leak inside your property
  • your water use is at least 3 times your usual 12-month average
  • there is no sign of tampering with the water meter

You do not qualify if:

  • the property is industrial, commercial, institutional or multi-residential
  • the property was vacant or unattended when the issue happened
  • high water use was from a pool, hot tub, rink, irrigation or other planned use

Apply within 90 days

You must apply within 90 days of receiving the high water bill.

You will need:

  • your water account number
  • leak location and details
  • the date on your bill
  • meter reading at the time of the repair
  • photos, if you have them
