Get a water certificate

A water certificate shows if there are unpaid charges on a property’s water account. Lawyers or real estate agents often request them during a sale or purchase.

Each certificate costs $89.

Request certificate

The fastest way is through the mypermits portal:

  • enter the property’s water account number
  • pay online by credit card

We’ll email your certificate after payment.

If you can’t apply online, download and complete the water certificate request form (PDF).

Submit the form with payment:

  • in person at Revenue Services, City Hall (cash, debit, or cheque payable to the City of Waterloo)
  • by mail with cheque payable to the City of Waterloo:

Certificate details

Note these important details:

  • certificates do not include balances after a final meter read
  • verbal confirmation is available for 3 months after issue
  • after 3 months, you’ll need a new certificate
