Make a noise complaint

Waterloo's noise bylaw limits loud or disruptive sounds. You can report noise if it breaks the rules.

General noise rules

Our Noise Bylaw limits when certain types of noise are allowed, including:

  • no yelling, shouting and loud voices after 11 p.m.
  • no residential renovation noise after 9 p.m.
  • no commercial construction noise after 7 p.m. (all day on Sundays and holidays)
  • no loud music, radio, TV or amplified sound after 5 p.m.

Most noise restrictions end at 7 a.m. (9 a.m. on Sundays).

Check for an exemption

Some events have approval to exceed noise limits. Before you call, check the list of approved noise exemptions.
