You must have a valid Ontario marriage licence before you can get married. Visit our Apply for a marriage licence page to learn how to get one.

What you need to get married

To help your ceremony run smoothly, make sure you have:

  • both people present
  • a valid Ontario marriage licence
  • 2 witnesses — we can provide witnesses for $30 each if needed
  • an interpreter, if either person doesn’t speak or understand English
    • interpreters cannot be witnesses
    • interpreters must sign a form confirming the ceremony was translated correctly

Book your ceremony

We host civil marriage ceremonies at City Hall, Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ceremonies are short and simple, held in a relaxed setting at:

  • Council Chambers
  • outside City Hall – weather permitting
  • another location inside City Hall

We use one standard ceremony script.

After you submit your request, staff will review it and contact you to confirm your ceremony date and time. Your booking isn’t final until we confirm it.
