Be You @ Waterloo

At the City of Waterloo, we are committed to recruiting a diverse volunteer team that represents the community we so proudly serve. All interested and qualified candidates, including Indigenous persons, Black persons, non-Black racialized persons or persons of colour, women, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+ and those interested in joining our team are encouraged to apply.


Current volunteer opportunities

Assist with aquatics instruction at the WMRC, under the supervision of aquatics staff. 

You must:

  • be age 14 or older with a current Bronze Cross certificate
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • commit to the full session

We are not recruiting volunteers at this time. Please visit late April 2026 to apply for the summer season.

 

We will start accepting applications for this position in late March 2026, please check back then. 

The Event Helper Volunteer, apart of the Event Team assists with delivering festivals and events to the community. The majority of events are evenings or weekends outdoors in Uptown Waterloo. As a member of the Event team you will receive emails about upcoming events and instructions on how to sign up for shifts.

This includes set-up or tear down of tables, tents, chairs, signage, etc. or assisting vendors. It may also include customer service such as providing information to the public, assisting with activities, or a combination of both.

You must:

  • be at least 16+
  • be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • be able to commit to a minimum 4 events per year
  • have good verbal and written communication skills
  • enjoy working with the public
  • be able to understand and follow instructions and carry out tasks independently
  • be able to complete shifts outdoors in varying weather on uneven ground
  • be able to attend a short virtual interview

Help an older adult or adult with a disability by driving them to local appointments or community programs. We will reimburse you for your mileage.

Volunteer drivers - Waterloo Home Support

You must:

  • be available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the option of one half or full weekday per week 
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements
  • we're also searching for drivers who speak additional languages

Volunteer drivers - Lunch program at the Community Pavilion

You must:

  • be available on a Tuesday or Friday from 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to drive older adults with a disability to the Community Pavilion and back
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements

Volunteer drivers - Senior day program

Help drive older adults from their home to the WMRC Community Pavilion from the WMRC Community Pavilion to their home in the afternoon.

You must:

  • be available for afternoon pick ups on Mondays from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements

Volunteer as a Kitchen Helper and assist with cooking and preparing food at the WMRC Community Pavilion

You must:

  • be an adult who enjoys cooking and is familiar in a kitchen setting
  • be available every Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • set tables and serve lunch to program participants
  • clear tables, wash and sterilize dishes
  • enjoy completing tasks as part of a team and at a fast pace
  • be able to communicate well in English
  • be good at reading recipes and following directions
  • be organized, neat appearance and good hygiene practices
