Be You @ Waterloo

At the City of Waterloo, we are committed to recruiting a diverse volunteer team that represents the community we so proudly serve. We're seeking responsible, community-minded adults or teens (16+) as outdoor ice rink volunteers in your neighbourhood.

You must:

  • assist with flooding, clearing snow and communicating rink rules to skaters
  • requires a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week (day, evening or weekend)

Help an older adult or adult with a disability by driving them to local appointments or community programs. We will reimburse you for your mileage.

Volunteer drivers - Waterloo Home Support

Position requirements:

  • be available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with the option of one half or full weekday per week 
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements
  • we're also searching for drivers who speak additional languages

Volunteer drivers - Senior day program

Help drive older adults from their home to the WMRC Community Pavilion in the morning or from the WMRC Community Pavilion to their home in the afternoon. 

Position requirements:

  • be available for afternoon pick ups on Mondays from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements

Volunteer drivers - Lunch program at the Community Pavilion

Position requirements:

  • be available on a Tuesday or Friday from 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to drive older adults with a disability to the Community Pavilion and back
  • be a friendly, dependable adult age 21+ with great communication skills
  • have a valid MTO G driver's licence for a minimum 4 years and access to a reliable vehicle
  • have access to a smartphone
  • meet screening requirements

The City of Waterloo is holding Winterloo, an annual family-friendly outdoor festival. We are seeking volunteers to assist with the operations, set-up, or tear-down of our Winterloo event, including tents, tables, signage. Volunteers must be age 16+ and able to lift up to 30 pounds. Volunteers must dress warmly and in layers as activities will take place outdoors. Boots, gloves, hats and a warm coat are essential.

  • date: Saturday January 24, 2026
  • location: Uptown Waterloo

Festival Assistant shift

  • from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. OR 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
  • must be 16+
  • must enjoy working with the public, able to follow directions and have great communication skills
  • may include assisting artists with activities, assisting with registration and line up of Ice Dog activity or Fashion Show or answering questions from the public at an information booth

Set-up shift:

  • from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • must be 16+
  • able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds

Tear-down shift 

  • from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

We are looking for an adult (18+) to review applications for Neighbourhood Grant Programs who:

  • lives in the City of Waterloo
  • will help decide how to fairly, openly and equitably share available funding
  • have good verbal and written communication skills, and be willing to work as part of a team
  • can meet on a weekday evening for 2 hours up to 5 times per year (a 2-year commitment is preferred)

The City of Waterloo is seeking adults age 18+ who have knowledge and experience with native plants and pollinators, educating youth and/or adults, and event planning.

In this role you will:

  • plan and deliver education and park stewardship activities for the community, relating to native plants and pollinators
  • participate in meetings held from 6pm to 8pm on the second Thursday of the month at a city facility from February to November, plus one event and stewardship activity per month between May and October
  • perform moderate physical activity and lifting up to 20 pounds during events

Virtual interviews for selected applicants will be held on January 28 and 29, 2026.
