Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex

Recreation facilities and programs are fully open starting on March 1. Check our COVID-19 page for full details. Self-screening before entrance is required at all facilities. Masks are not required but will continue to be worn be staff.  Proof of vaccination is not required.

WMRC entrance procedure

Self-screening procedures

Following new provincial rules, starting March 1, proof of vaccination is no longer required to enter recreation facilities. All screening will be self-screening checks by visitors on arrival. A list of self-screening questions will be posted at all locations. Physical distancing is encouraged.

As of March 21 masks are not required indoors but will continue to be worn by staff.

At WMRC, users may enter through the doors on the southeast side of the building (between Father David Bauer Drive and Avondale Avenue).

Important info for using the facility once inside

  1. Food concessions are not available at this time.
  2. Dressing rooms are only available for ice users.
  3. Washrooms are available but are not to be used as dressing rooms.
  4. Warm ups are not permitted in any common areas of the facility.
  5. Guardians must remain in the designated activity space and wear masks.
  6. Players are only allowed to remove masks while playing.
  7. Participants must ensure physical distancing is maintained on players benches.
  8. No participant or guardian shall spit or blow their nose freely anywhere in the facility.
  9. If using ice, please leave the playing surface immediately after buzzer sounds.
  10. Ensure all equipment is picked up in advance of the buzzer sounding to enable an immediate exit.
  11. Participants are encouraged to fill water bottles before arriving.
  12. Groups must be adequately equipped with their own first aid supplies.

Most spaces in WMRC are available for rent. From small meetings to birthday parties and banquets, the facility offers flexible spaces that can suit many needs.

The indoor swimming complex (what we call the ‘swimplex') has swimming pools, a diving tower, springboards, a waterslide and a splash area for children. Swim lanes are 20 to 22 metres in length. Male, female and universal change rooms are available. 

Sun Life Financial Arena 

Waterloo's largest arena has an Olympic-sized ice surface and maximum capacity of 4,400 spectators (3,400 seated). It has eight dressing rooms and two referee rooms with showers, a first aid room and a press box. 

Meeting rooms 

There are three community meeting rooms that can accommodate between 25 to 40 people. 

Indoor track 

The indoor track is a low impact rubber surface that runs in an oval around the arena. Visit our track page for more information.

WMRC hosts several events a year that bring visitors to Waterloo. When major events occur, we provide tips to help you plan your trips to our facility.

There are currently no major events scheduled. 

KW Siskins and Wilfrid Laurier Men's and Women's hockey home games are played out of the Sun Life Financial Arena.
