City of Waterloo encourages fireworks safety for Lunar New Year 2026

In Waterloo, fireworks are permitted on Lunar New Year, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali/Deepavali.
On February 17, 2026, fireworks will be permitted from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fireworks must be set off on private property and are not permitted in public spaces such as schools or parks. They may only be handled by adults aged 18 and older.

As of January 2026, the sale of fireworks is no longer permitted in the City of Waterloo.
The City encourages residents to be mindful of how fireworks can impact neighbours and wildlife. If planning to use fireworks, consider notifying neighbours in advance, as the noise can disturb pets, children, those with different work schedules or individuals sensitive to loud sounds. Avoid setting off fireworks near water systems or in areas where wildlife live, as fireworks contain chemicals that can harm the environment and animals.

To report fireworks being used outside of the permitted times or for excessive noise complaints, call 519-747-8785. In the event of an emergency or dangerous situation, call 911.
