The City of Waterloo and the Age-friendly Waterloo Advisory Committee are proud to announce that Bill Carter has been named the 2025 Senior of the Year.
Mr. Carter was nominated by multiple individuals and organizations, in recognition of his extraordinary dedication, leadership and generosity in service to the community.
For over five decades, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to making Waterloo a better place through both hands-on support and visionary leadership across numerous organizations.
Among his many contributions:
- 50 years of active involvement with the Kitchener Conestoga Rotary Club, including extensive leadership and fundraising efforts that have helped sustain countless community initiatives.
- Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Grassroots Response, where he played a vital role in supporting Ukrainians settling in the Waterloo Region.
- Personal provision of stable housing and settlement support for two Ukrainian newcomers during times of great need.
- Strategic leadership at the Cloverleaf Foundation, which with his counsel, has provided grants to impactful local organizations including Immigration Partnership, our hospitals, Hospice Waterloo Region, Strong Start, and Tiny Home Takeout.
“Bill has been a champion for early literacy and a devoted supporter. His incredible energy and commitment to our community, on so many fronts, truly makes him one of Waterloo’s treasured citizens who gives back, inspires others, and defies age,” said Machelle Denison, CEO of Strong Start®.
Judy Nairn, Executive Director of Hospice of Waterloo Region, also shared, “Bill was a great ambassador in sharing his support and commitment to our organization and encouraging others to become part of our project.”
The City of Waterloo feels privileged to celebrate Mr. Carter’s extensive and compassionate contributions. We are also grateful to his nominators for bringing his name forward for consideration.
