City of Waterloo launches assisted snow clearing program
The assisted sidewalk and windrow snow clearing program is a free snow removal service for eligible residents unable to clear their sidewalks and windrows during the winter months.
The program supports Waterloo residents who are 65 years and older, as well as persons with physical disabilities.
Eligible residents are asked to apply by October 31, 2023 for service in this upcoming snow season. Thanks to an early launch the service will be available, with a limited number of spots, following the first snowfall of the season, on or after November 15 through to April 15, 2024. The City expects the program will expand next year due to demand.
“We recognize the importance of complete communities which involves developing new programs that offer accessible and inclusive services,” said Tiffany Smith, Manager, Senior Services and Community Services. The snow assist program will address common winter sidewalk difficulties experienced by those with physical limitations. The program was created from community feedback and the city plans to gather further input from homeowners and the community, after this first trial season, to inform changes for next winter.
Updated program details and eligibility are available on the City’s website, where applications are accepted, www.waterloo.ca/snow-assist. Contact program administration staff at 519-747-8780 or (TTY) 1-866-786-3941 to request assistance filling out the online form.
