City of Waterloo launches interactive map featuring local retailers
The City of Waterloo is pleased to release an interactive GIS-based map featuring local retailers as they re-open and how they’re operating.
In April, the City of Waterloo launched a Google map highlighting restaurants that are offering curbside pickup or delivery services during COVID-19. The map has expanded to include food businesses in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge—and to date has had over 67,000 views!
As many retailers start to reopen with appointment-based shopping, continued online shopping, curbside pickup or local delivery, this new open retail map provides a common place for local consumers to see who is opening and how to access their services.
“With businesses facing reduced operations as a result of physical distancing measures, we know this isn’t a one size fits all situation,” says Justin McFadden, director of economic development for the City of Waterloo. “The City of Waterloo economic development and GIS staff developed the open retail map to make it easier for the local consumer to choose to shop locally during a difficult time for local businesses.”
Businesses are reopening daily and the list of businesses inventoried is changing quickly. The retail map is designed to evolve with updates as businesses reopen or shift how they are operating. If your business needs to be updated or added, you can complete our online form.
In addition to the restaurant and retail maps, the city continues to maintain its COVID-19 business response page with an up-to-date list of programs and supports available to local businesses and arts & culture organizations during this time.
