Jassy Narayan is Waterloo's 2024 Senior of the Year

The City of Waterloo and the Age Friendly Multi-Agency Committee are pleased to announce this year’s Senior of the Year is Jassy Narayan.

Jassy was a founding member of Focus for Ethnic Women, an organization in Waterloo created to train immigrant women for the workplace. She provided supervision to Social Work students doing placements at the Multicultural Centre and has offered workshops at WLU’s Faculty of Social Work on making the profession more inclusive.

Over the years Jassy has been a volunteer board member for K-W YWCA, K-W Social Planning Council, Waterloo Region Immigrant Employment Network, Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership and many more. Her work with community organizations has informed equity practices by advising on ways that organizations can be more culturally inclusive.

“Her most significant contribution to Waterloo has been to advocate for and demonstrate how to build successful partnerships with community agencies, including those serving newcomers to Canada,” said nominator Maedith Radlein. “For her, participation is the essence of citizenship.”

The City of Waterloo is honoured to name Jassy Narayan as the 2024 Senior of the Year, an award that will be presented to her later in June.
