Can I request traffic calming?
We no longer accept traffic calming study requests. The program now uses citywide data to choose the locations that need it most.
Road safety and traffic calming program
Council approved a new program in 2024 to reduce injuries and fatalities on our roads.
The program:
- collects traffic and collision data
- analyzes results to find locations with the highest safety concerns
- focuses funding on improvements with the biggest impact
- installs traffic calming measures to reduce speeding and aggressive driving
Our goal is to use public funds wisely and make the most important safety improvements first.

Traffic calming measures
We use a mix of active and passive methods
Active measures – physical changes to the street:
- speed bumps or raised intersections
- median refuge islands
Passive measures – visual cues for drivers:
- traffic calming signs
- seasonal in-road flexible signs
- speed radar signs
