Construction and your neighbours

Construction can affect those around you. Follow these steps to keep it safe, respectful and neighbour-friendly.

Communicate early

Tell neighbours:

  • what you’re building
  • when work will happen
  • how it might affect them

Share your contact information so they can reach you with questions.

Hire licensed contractors

All contractors in Waterloo must be licensed. Check their references and confirm their licence with our Municipal Enforcement team at bl@waterloo.ca or 519-747-8785.

Follow noise, safety and access rules

Follow these rules to reduce disruptions and keep the area safe:

  • obey Waterloo’s noise bylaw
  • keep the site safe and tidy
  • don’t block driveways or sidewalks

Display your permit

Most projects need a permit. Place it where it’s visible from the street.
