Indoor tracks and walking loop

There is a walking loop at RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex and Healthy Living Centre and walking and running tracks at Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (WMRC). Find more information about accessing and using the facilities below. Check to ensure the tracks are open on the closures and cancellation page before arrival.

RIM Park walking loop

The hallways of the RIM Park facility create a loop for walking. It is available Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (excluding holiday closures, special events or maintenance related interruptions).

Pre-registration is not required and there is no fee.

The distance of one complete circuit is 550 metres.

Rules for using the walking loop:

  • no running is allowed
  • remain in the walking loop hallways or walking area
  • keep moving at all times
  • let others know if you need to pass them
  • pass on the left
  • strollers are permitted
  • no equipment allowed (hockey sticks, balls, pucks, mats, weights or skipping ropes) except walking poles

WMRC running track

The large track is for running and walking. It is located around the arena bowl.

The track is available Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from May to October (excluding holiday closures, special events or maintenance related interruptions).

Pre-registration is not required and there is no fee.

The inside lane and second lane of the track are for walking only, jogging is allowed in the second middle lane, and the outside lane is for running only.

Running track distances are:

  • 4.25 laps on the inside lane = 1 km
  • 4.15 laps of the first middle lane = 1 km
  • 4.17 laps of the second middle lane = 1 km
  • 4 laps of the outside lane = 1 km

Rules for using the running track:

  • participants must be 13 years or older unless actively supervised by someone 18 years or older
  • walk no more than two people side-by-side
  • strollers are permitted on the track and a maximum of two persons may push single strollers side-by-side in the walking lanes only
  • when using the jogging and running lanes with a stroller, only single file is permitted
  • no equipment allowed (hockey sticks, balls, pucks, mats, weights or skipping ropes) except walking poles
  • use proper footwear that is dry and made for running or walking, 5 mm spikes are permitted
  • track is not for commercial or enterprise use and no private or instructional lessons are permitted

WMRC walking track

The small track is for walking only. It is located next to the Hauser Fitness Studios. The track is available Monday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (excluding holiday closures, special events or maintenance related interruptions).

Pre-registration is not required and there is no fee.

Walking track distances:

  • 11.25 laps around the inside lane = 1 km
  • 10.5 laps around the outside lane = 1 km
  • the inside lane is for walking and the outside lane is for passing only

Rules for using the walking track:

  • no running is allowed
  • walking is in single file
  • strollers are permitted and must remain single file in the inside lane
  • participants must be 13 years or older unless actively supervised by someone 18 years or older
  • no equipment allowed (hockey sticks, balls, pucks, mats, weights or skipping ropes) except walking poles
  • use proper footwear that is dry and made for walking, no spikes allowed
  • track is not for commercial or enterprise use and no private or instructional lessons are permitted
