Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (WMRC) at 101 Father David Bauer Drive is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The customer service desk opens at 8 a.m.

Swimming

Take swim lessons or join public swims, lane swims and waterfit at the Swimplex:

WMRC has 2 tracks:

  • a low impact rubber-surface running track that circles the arena 
  • a smaller walking track

Inside the WMRC

The Swimplex includes pools, a diving tower, springboards, a waterslide and a splash area for children:

  • lanes are 20 to 22 metres long
  • warm water swirl pool where swimmers can sit or stand is kept at 32–33°C (90–92°F)
  • male, female and universal change rooms
  • lockers are available – bring your own lock

Waterloo’s largest arena includes:

  • olympic-sized ice surface
  • seating for up to 4,400 spectators – 3,400 seated
  • 8 dressing rooms with showers
  • 2 referee rooms
  • first aid room and press box

Accessibility

WMRC has these features:

Mobility support:

  • elevator access throughout the facility
  • convenient participant drop-off area
  • tactile wayfinding in the foyer

Communication support:

  • live interpretation in over 240 languages, provided by Voyce Global

Pool accessibility:

  • ramp entry into the shallow pool
  • ramp entry into the swirl pool
  • three water wheelchairs – one is a commode style, weight limit 250 pounds
  • 2 adult adapted life jackets – for ages 12 and older, up to 200 pounds
  • 2 youth adapted life jackets – for ages 5 to 12, up to 90 pounds

Washrooms and change rooms:

  • single-occupant washrooms
  • universal washrooms
  • universal aquatic change room with:
    • ceiling track lift
    • adult change table
    • universal slings – bring your own or use ours

Ice and arena accessibility:

  • two wheelchair skates available

Additional support:

  • sensory backpacks available

Events

The WMRC hosts hockey games and community events:

  • Waterloo Siskins home games
  • Wilfrid Laurier University men's and women's hockey games
  • several large events that welcome visitors to Waterloo
