  • Waterloo’s Program and Activities Guide has a new name! Say hello to the new and improved ActiveWaterloo Guide! This new name aligns with our registration site, and our community’s active lifestyle. Moving forward, the registration site, Leisure Letter and guide will all be under the ActiveWaterloo brand.
  • Show Me The City – Stories of Waterloo Park Friends of Waterloo Park, working together with the City of Waterloo and the City of Waterloo Museum, invite you to participate in an in-person or virtual tour of Waterloo Park.  Often called “the jewel of the city”, Waterloo Park features 111 acres of prime parkland, with a number of amenities that our community enjoys year-round.
  • Overnight grass trimming on August 5, 10, 13, 2021 Please be advised that grass trimming along roadway medians will take place on August 5, 10, and 13, from 12:00 a.m.
  • Albert McCormick splash court and basketball court closed for 24hrs Friday, Aug. 6, 2021 Please be advised that City of Waterloo staff need to complete the line painting at the basketball court at the new Albert McCormick Central Plaza. To make sure the new paint doesn't get wet, and to allow enough time for the paint to set, the basketball court and splash court will be closed for 24 hours, from 7 a.
  • The Many Shapes of Clay The City of Waterloo Museum is ready to reopen its doors and welcome back visitors.  What: The Many Shapes of Clay Where: City of Waterloo Museum, located at Conestoga Mall (near the food court) When: August 3, 2021 to April 2022  Throughout history, skilled artisans from every corner of the globe have magically transformed a simple lump of clay into objects that are so much a part of human existence.
  • Albert McCormick Central Plaza officially opens July 16 The City of Waterloo is excited to announce the opening of the Albert McCormick Central Plaza, a project in the making since 2013.  “Waterloo loves the skatepark uptown,” says Brooke Milsom, landscape technologist for the City of Waterloo and the lead on this project.
  • City of Waterloo moving to provincial Step 3 on Friday With Waterloo Region moving into Step 3 of the provincial response framework on Friday, July 16, the City of Waterloo will gradually re-start recreation programs, services and amenities, as well as remove restrictions on other city services according to the guidelines and protocols.  A number of outdoor recreation programs are already underway and we will gradually ramp up further indoor program and services as of July 16.
  • City of Waterloo service changes in Step 2 The City of Waterloo will move with the rest of the region into Step 2 of the provincial Roadmap to Reopen on Monday, July 12, 2021. Residents are reminded to continue following physical distancing and face covering recommendations, and of the general provincial gathering limits under Step 2: Maximum 25 people for outdoor gatherings Maximum 5 people for indoor gatherings Other City of Waterloo changes effective Monday, July 12 in Step 2: Passive park/picnic bookings will increase to a maximum of 25 participants, with COVID protocols in place Outdoor sports fields and diamonds will be open for team play (including game play) with mandatory physical distancing and no contact rules in place, in addition to sport-specific COVID protocols Outdoor sport spectators are permitted at fields and diamonds, physical distancing must be maintained and face coverings are recommended Indoor sports facilities remain closed The Adult Recreation Centre and Wing 404 will be open by appointment only, for registered participants attending specialized programming Marriage ceremonies will continue to be performed by appointment only, with a maximum of ten people attending For funerals, the graveside maximum is 75 people.
  • 2021 City of Waterloo Artist in Residence invites the community to explore trails and community parks The City of Waterloo is pleased to announce Lucy Bilson as the 2021 Artist in Residence. Throughout the summer, Bilson will involve the community in a series of online and in-person engagements.
  • City hires first Director of Indigenous Initiatives, Anti-Racism, Accessibility and Equity The City of Waterloo is pleased to announce the hiring of its first Director of Indigenous Initiatives, Anti-Racism, Accessibility and Equity. Sanjay Govindaraj will join the city on August 16, following more than 20 years with the Region of Waterloo, with the last five working in Human Resources and the Chief Administrative Office as an Equity and Anti-Racism Advisor in the Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights unit.
