Check the watermain flushing schedule

Each year, the City of Waterloo flushes watermains to remove natural minerals that build up inside pipes over time.

Check the schedule to find when we'll be in your neighbourhood.

Learn about the program

Over time, iron and other minerals can settle inside watermains, the large pipes that carry water underground. Flushing moves fresh water through these pipes to clear out minerals and improve water quality.

No chemicals are used.

During flushing, you may notice:

  • temporary changes in water pressure
  • slightly discoloured or cloudy water

This is normal and temporary.

The Watermain Flushing Program is now over for the 2025 season.

The next program begins in the spring.

What to do if your water is discoloured

If your water looks different during or after flushing:

  • don’t drink discoloured water
  • run cold water for several minutes until it runs clear
  • avoid doing laundry until your water is clear

If your water still looks discoloured after 5 minutes, wait an hour and try again.

If the problem continues, call 519-886-2310.
