City of Waterloo reopens community gardensFollowing the Province of Ontario’s decision to reopen community gardens as essential service, the City of Waterloo has reopened all 73 plots in five community gardens on city-owned land. The city, along with area municipalities, has taken a coordinated approach to reopening community gardens, working together with the Community Garden Council and in consultation with the Waterloo Region Public Health Office to ensure a safe transition back to operating these valued spaces.
Safety reminders: don’t hold garage sales, observe physical distancing when out in parks and trailsWith warm temperatures expected this weekend, the city has two important safety reminders - don’t stage garage sales and and follow new trail markers when out for physical activity.
The trail markers have been placed on asphalt trails, along with signage throughout parks and trails to remind people of the need to remain at least six feet apart from people who do not live in the same household.

Today’s decision aligns the municipalities with Sunday’s announcement from the provincial government delaying the re-opening of the province’s schools until May 31.

Waterloo releases interactive map showcasing restaurants open during pandemicThe City of Waterloo has produced a categorized custom Google map of restaurants and food businesses open across the city that offer pick up, curbside or delivery services during the pandemic.
“With businesses facing reduced operations as a result of physical distancing measures, the support of the local community is needed now more than ever,” says Justin McFadden, director, economic development for the City of Waterloo.
